Re: Living in Thailand for 1 year
some countries give one-year multi-entry non-B visas pretty much if you simply request them. not everywhere. if it is not an option, very difficult.
many long-term expats are on back to back tourist visas if they do not work. but there is now a limit on how many of these you can get. not really a set limit, up to the officials. they are becoming stricter and stricter.
international schools are VERY expensive and it sounds like you need to research them because it may be the key component of your plans. how old is your child?
as for work.... what can you do?
I think more info is needed for more useful replies here.

You can check out the Singapore International School in Thailand (http://www.sisb.ac.th/). They follow Singapore's curriculum so your child should not have big problem adjusting.

You can check out this website (http://www.thaiapartment.com/Index.asp) for apartment info. Some friends of mine are staying in a 2 room apartment at Non City Tower (Nonthaburi) for about 4000/5000 maybe even less than that.
