    A year in Thailand Pt.5 (Hat-Yai)

After koh Tarutao, i headed for Hat-Yai. I had only planned on staying a few days here but ended up staying a week. In Trang and Satun i was very busy day tripping nearly everyday, and then after all the trekking and sleeping rough on koh Tarutao, it was nice to hit a city for a while, chill out, catch up on all my laundry and eat well.

As far as i could make out, Hat-Yai has bare minimal attractions to see, the only place i found worth going for the day was the "Muncipal"? park.... very similar to the park i saw in Trang. It was a really nice place and if you were willing to walk/climb the extra mile there was a chinese themed temple and giant gold buddah that showed off a fantastic birds eye view of Hat-Yai and also (i think) Songklah.

As luck would have it, the peoples republic of China had their ice dome in Hat-Yai at the time i went so i had a look around that too which was great.

That's about it for Hat-Yai as my only other day trip involved going to Tesco lotus and big C for the day to wonder about in the cool lol though towards the end of the week i found myself sleeping through the day and going to the clubs at night. I'm not really into night life though as i don't drink alcohol but i saw a lot of live bands and i have to say i am very very impressed with all the ones i've seen in Thailand so far. I mainly went to @Deep wonder bar which is below the Odean shaopping mall (1minute walk from my guesthouse) which is a small, really nice little place that had the same band playing most nights and they were great. The other place which was a lot bigger and more commercialized. It was called Sugar beat and was a 20-25 minute walk from ODEAN shaopping mall, again this was a great place and had fantastic bands playing with DJ music inbetween

Hey Arwing, did you venture into Songhkla at all? I was working there years ago, it had great seafood restaurants along the beach and the town itself had huge markets....great shopping....not a bad town at all to walk around and explore.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
