Learning Thai with cartoons/movies
Hi all,
I would like to start learning Thai with Thai movies and was wondering if there are movies that are both Thai spoken and Thai subtitled? This would be great, because Thai people tend to speak at high speed and there are many ways to write a word which makes it almost impossible to find the meaning just by listening.
Preferably something that's not too difficult, such as a movie/cartoon for children
.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Learning Thai with cartoons/movies
There's lots of them.
One that springs to mind is a DVD-box full of TinTin (Kuifje) cartoons, that are both Thai/English spoken and Thai/English subtitled, so you can pick any combination you like.
You can find it online at www.ethaicd.com (among others)
Just make sure you have a region-free DVD-player

Re: Learning Thai with cartoons/movies
I'm watching a movie at the moment for language practice that has thai language subtitles. Sorry I can't remember the title right now - it's a rom com with Ken, where he plays a railways engineer pursued by a geeky girl who is totally incapable of catching a man. It's great practice for building vocabulary, as the language is complicated in parts.
"Beautiful Boxer" was on the box here last week and I was able to understand all of the dialogue. The language is fairly simple and the actors all had great diction. Well worth seeing. You can read blogs about Thailand at - www.Thai-Blogs.com

Re: Learning Thai with cartoons/movies
Just came back from B2S with 6 DVD's, there are indeed many movies with thai subtitles.
Just look for คำบรรยายไทย on the box.
For Thai movies with English subtitles, keep track of the subtitled movies that are shown in the theaters,
they will be available on DVD after a few months. You can check on the internet which movies are shown.
Love stories are the easiest, they don't speak too fast.
Cartoons, although they use very basic language, sometimes I find very hard to understand due to the "funny" voices
Non original Thai movies I don't like either, the spoken synchronized Thai is very different to normal Thai speech.
On youtube you can find many soaps (ละคร lakorn) with English subtitles (youtube downloaders are avaiblable for free on the net)
Enjoy!

Re: Learning Thai with cartoons/movies
I have to agree with a lot of the above comments, as a way to learn thai i think not very good,as ok basic bits ok but can get very complicated so easy,''Love stories are the easiest, they don't speak too fast.

I find it the same for music, roman script or read the thai, great if you can but again not much help for normal chat in thai, so for getting a head start to learning quickly i think there is no easy option, good luck.

I really agree with the fact that watching la-korn can help. They give you new vocabulary.
The only thing I want to find now is a Thai subtitle.
