    attractions near the airport

Hello; we are planning a trip with our two kids to Thailand & Vietnam next month.
We land at BKK at 15:30. I invited a room at Thong Ta hotel for the first night - i want to sleep near the airport; because at the next day we have a flight to Vietnam.
We are looking for a nice attracion for ur family; that is not too far from the airport.
I thought maybe to go to Suang Luang Rama Park; but after I saw the site of Samut Prakan; Ithought that maybe this will be a better idea; to gind a nice attraction there.
Can you help me please to find a nice place for our first evening?

Were you planning on going somewhere the same day? The earliest you would be out is 4:30 pm and then by the time you drive anywhere most places will be starting to close.

I heard about a night market in this area; but I dont remember the name exactly...
Other option that I thought; is to go to Seacon mall - Is it to far?

I am not sure about a night market other than normal ones that sell food.

Seacon Square is not far away on Srinakarin road. I would also consider Central Plaza Bang Na (formerly known as Central City). It has cinemas with latest movies in English, bowling alley and large swimming complex on the roof. There is also video arcades.

I can mark on the map if you like.

If you are staying at the Thong Ta, there is'nt all that much to do unless you take a taxi.
It is close to the airport, if your room is on that side you can watch the planes take off in the distance. But it is far enough that you cant hear them, good tho.
There is a market a short walking distance from Thong Ta, turn right at the main road. reception will give you directions. l am sure it goes into the evening, but unsure if it's every evening. There are plenty of eating places there, just at the end of the hotel road and also to the right around the corner. We enjoyed our meals there both evenings.
lt's not flash, it's out door, but great Thai food. There is also a little shop, you can buy cold drinks for the younger one's and beer for who ever. I think it is a 7 Eleven, great little shops and they are every where. If you look about, they have every thing you need, breakfast cereal's, milk, butter,, ice creams, hair shampoos, personal items, you name it they have it.
While l think of it, I hope you are into out door Thai eating places. Just to be on the safe side, only eat cooked things. You will miss out on a great side to Thailand if you dont. If there is any thing l can help you with, just ask.
Dont forget the free taxi service Thong Ta have, van's actually, but very nice vans. They are hard'ish to find at the airport, you will see people with cards, just ask someone, many speek English. lm'e lucky, l have a personal interpreter, my Thai wife.
    You will love Thailand.

I thank for you very much for the usefull information.

Mozzbie - I love out door food! I think that this one of the trip joys; to eat an authentic food; together with the local people. (this is one of my best memories from the last trip to Thailand - the food at the street corners at the China Town..)
Anyway; the day of our arrival to Bangkok is thursday - is the market open on that day?

I cant remember if was Thursday or Friday, but sure it didnt start untill late afternoon.
There is a young Thai man just to the right at the end of the drive to Thong Ta, yellow sign's around his cart, best food we had in Thailand.
I agree, to eat from the small road side food people is just the best. lf you only go to flash restaurants, ya might as well stay at home. We always eat from this type of food place and hav'nt had an upset stomach yet. Actually when we did get a bout of the runs, it was from a good eating place, so go figure. lf you or the children get a little upset, there are plenty of chemist shops about. They have a range of pills that will put you right.
I will add, at Thong Ta and Spa, there is no Spa, maybe a good thing, l dont like wollowing in them anyway. l think about who used them over the last month or so, not good, LOL.

    Re: attractions near the airport

    Hi,
There is an a restaurant close to the airport that is realy quite different from others, it's called The Royal Dragon restaurant. It is massive with open plan outside areas and also indoor places to eat.It has over 1000 staff serving and some of the waiters bring your food whilst on roller skates. There are also shows on there and all manner of different things. I have been a few times and the food was good and not expensive. The restaurant is on the Bangna Trad road. You can check it out on there website.

    http://www.royal-dragon.com/aboutus.htm

There is a guy in full dress who flys through the air on a zip wire to deliver food and waiters who appear to walk on water. It's very pleasent and entertaining.

    Billy.
