    Traveling to Singapore from Bangkok

I'm going to Bangkok by the end of November and after a week i am planning to go to Singapore. I am finding a cheap, but comfortable one, to travel by land. I have read from the web that there are 2 options, by taking a bus or a train. The thing with the train is that you have to go to Kuala Lumpur and take another train, which is kinda confusing on some info i got because you have to travel from the station you land to the station you will again take.

I have no plans to go to Kuala Lumpur, I just want a direct ride from BKK to Singapore, i don't want to take airplane, and just want to go sight seeing while on land travel. Any suggestions?

And also, do I have to book the ticket early or is it okay if i just go directly to the train/bus station? Would there be numerous traveling bus/train in a day?

    Thanks.

If you want confusion, take the bus!

At K L there is only one train station. The train from north line will stop at KL then you just continue with the journey to Singapore by the south line train at KL different platform.

The most direct route would be a 3 stage journey:

    1. Bangkok, TH > Butterworth, MY - Train 35 (International Express). Departs 14:45, Arrives 13:51.
    2. Butterworth, MY > Kuala Lumpur, MY - Train 11 (Ekspres Sinaran Utara). Departs 15:30, Arrives 22:05.
    3. Kuala Lumpur, MY > Singapore - Train 25 (Senandung Sutera). Departs 23:00, Arrives 07:00.

For general interest, is it possible to break the journey for, say, one day's sightseeing in KL?
Occurs to me a lot of independent, non-backpacker European travellers would be interested in this journey-possibly from Singapore to Bangkok.

Yes it is, three three train sections mentioned have to be booked as three separate tickets anyway. I've been investigating possibly doing this trip in the opposite direction (Singapore >> Bangkok) in November.

Yes, David is correct. As for starting from Singapore there are 3 trains daily to Kuala Lumpur, departing at 08:00 (arr 14:54), 13:00 (arr 20:16) and 22:30 (arr 06:30) respectively.

The recommended train for the next leg to Butterworth would be Train 22 departing at 22:00 and arriving at 04:58. The final connection to Bangkok departs at 13:45.

Or if you take train 20 departing KL at 21:15 you can go straight through Butterworth and instead change train in Hat Yai, southern Thailand (arrive 10:12 depart 18:20) and still arrive in Bangkok at the same time (it's the same 13:45 train from Butterworth you pick up at Hat Yai). But be aware that if you take that option your onward journey to Bangkok has to be booked with Thai Railways, the computers at Malaysian stations cannot do this for you.
