    panic Naidoc Festival

    Hi all,

I will be going for the preparation week of the annual Naidoc Festival in a few weeks' time, and as can be expected, I am extremely excited. It is a voluntary community outreach program, and it is a short trip too (just over the weekend), but it is my first time hearing about and being involved in the festival, and also first time to a rural and remote area.

I tried searching for more info online, but it yielded little more than what I was briefly told. There will be an 1hr pre-trip briefing nearer to the date but I guess I will like to find out more about it i.e. more info about the origins of the Naidoc, any taboos to observe during the trip, and what not. Also, how to make myself more engaging to the kids will be very good to know Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it will help with more info if I say it is an aboriginal festival.

I must confess that I had to do some google research. At first I thought it was a Thai festival you were talking about, yet 'Naidoc' did not look like a Thai name.

Please tell us some basic information about the festival and what you expect your participation will be.

I think it's great that you have such a desire to learn and participate in new adventures.

Thanks Susanna for your kind effort.

I was told nothing about it (when I asked, was just told it's an annual aboriginal festival). Not told yet what to do, will be told during the one-hr briefing (only knew I will be going on the preparation week, but what exactly to do, not told). Only was told to bring some food for ourselves hahaha. Aussie friends did not know much about it too.

That's why I figure I will just try my luck see if any Aussies here (seems there are quite a few here) in the know about aboriginal culture can highlight something. It's not something I am hard-pressed to know more and quickly, cos I will just follow whatever instruction given during the briefing and trip, and I'm just joining for the sake of the experience. If any locals know, then that's nice and lucky, if not, I will just have to wait for the briefing

Thanks I will watch the Youtube when I can. Now is my busiest time of the sem; not getting enough sleep - spent free time during lunch reading posts here but not much else.

Huh? Just the beginning of the sem and it's already at the busiest peak time? I wonder what will it going to happen when marching towards the final sem? I think it will be like a nightmare (pls must be on the lookout of your health, its the greatest asset when it comes to winning of a battle)...and its weird that the youtube link which I access through galaxy tab yesterday was fine but not in lappy. Perhaps there's a difference in andriod browser and windows. But luckily I managed to find it .

It's not the beginning the sem anymore It's the so-called exam period now; I have mine much earlier than most of the others.
