Best Thai studies
Greetings,
Best Isaan University for a Farang to major in Thai studies i.e. language, culture etc.
My Isaan wife and I are in California aiming to return "home" upon my retirement. My fabulous Isaan gal wants to find a Masters in Education program at a University where I can also spend my leisure years slaving to master pasa Thai and learn about Thailand.
Any ideas? The Ratchaphat system looks promising. CMU seems to offer the best Farang education, but we really want to avoid the tourist spots and I find Chiang Mai a bit much.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks

Re: Best Thai studies
Khon Kaen is one of the biggest Universities in this Area, and Khon Kaen lies in the heart of Isaan.
It's not to touristic but yet you will find everything you need.
And it's a nice starting point to travel around Isaan as it is pretty central.
About the Program they offer please have a look at the following Links and maybe contact them yourself by E-Mail:

Re: Best Thai studies
I overflew Khon Kaen Program and it seems they don't over Thai Language Studies.
Another big University in the heart of Isaan is Mahasarakham University and they seem to offer Thai Language:

Re: Best Thai studies
Thanks for the input.
MSU looks very interesting. Not far from the wife's hometown Yasothon and with what looks like Farang friendly studies.
Anyone have an idea of the costs for University studies in Isaan? We're planning carefully for retirement/expatriation and need to budget everything to the satang.
The idea of not working and attending University is enticing. Unemployment with a pension check sounds so sweet after these decades of work.
As an intermediate speaker and beginner reader/writer of pasa Thai, I have my work cut out for me, but I'm familiar with the road to success and am committed to study and progress.
Any expats out there attending Thai University?

Re: Best Thai studies
A couple of years ago, Chula Uni was offering a Master of Psychology program for not more than S$15,000 per year, which works out to be around US$12,000 per year. I assume most Master programs in other Thai unis will be around this price range, as I assume Chula Uni's will be the most costly Thai uni.
