Re: Eye-Fi wifi SDHC cards
Eye-Fi recently launched a public Beta version of their desktop software that now enables geo-tagging of RAW files by storing the data in an additional XMP file. This will no doubt be incorporated in to a regular future update of the software once any problems are ironed out.

Re: Eye-Fi wifi SDHC cards
Just an update about the Eye-Fi card. It appears that most free wifi hotspots in the UK are provided by 'The Cloud' and that access is controlled by locking to the MAC address of the device you sign up with such as your laptop. As the Eye-Fi card doesnt have a keyboard you cannot sign up with it so the card can't use 'The Cloud' wifi hotspots...
But I have a free app from Eye-Fi that runs on my iPod and the Eye-Fi card can connect to this and transfer the photos to your iPod and then your iPod can connect to 'The Cloud' if you create your account using it and automatically forward your photos to your computer. It is rather slower as you have to transfer from Eye-Fi card to iPod to the Eye-Fi servers in California to your computer but is a work around. You also have to delete the photos from your iPod after confirming that they have been delivered to the final destination of your computer which kind of negates the facility of the card to automatically delete photos after safe delivery.
Apart from 'The Cloud' in the UK this way will also be usefull for travel in Thailand where most wifi internet I have used requires you to enter a account number and password provided to you daily by the hotel reception.
A word of warning, it can take a while to get the Eye-Fi app working. It has taken me three weeks, I don't know why it didn't work and nor do I know what I did different to get it to work... But work it does now.

Re: Eye-Fi wifi SDHC cards
Actually I've now worked this out. The iPod can only connect to one network at a time, if it can see your home network then it won't connect to the Eye-Fi card. It just so happened that my earlier testing when it worked coincided with a dropped connection on my wifi network - wifi is on 24/7 and about every other day it drops the connection for about a minute at some point...
When away from any known networks - that is when you want the iPod in the system - it will connect automatically.
Three weeks it took to work that out...

Re: Eye-Fi wifi SDHC cards
Maybe they can invent a phone that can think for it self and then I will buy it.
