    Skype protection tips

You don't have to enter your full name or any part of your real name in your Skype profile and you do not have to enter any phone number. Do not give any month or birth date unless you want to. If you get a contact request wait 24 hours if the request is bogus you will notice it does not even exist when you do Skype search for contacts. Skype is working very hard and implementing some very good identity protection methods. Alerting you of new contact request and letting us ignore or block contact. A new contact request should always have Skype user name and country of origin. Be careful!

Personally, I don't communicate with, let alone accept contacts from, anyone I don't know, whether it is Skype, Facebook or an email account.

Thank you Curt. I don't communicate with anyone unknown either. I've been getting at least 2 contact request from Skype every week and my Skype user name could have been obtained from other peoples contact list that I am on and other than this forum my Skype user name is not listed anywhere. I only use Skype because it is free Skype to Skype audio & video world wide and works well for me. Just trying to let everyone know be careful.

    Re: Skype protection tips

Thanks for the tip. I never received any contact requests from Skype when I only accessed it from my laptop, however since using it on my iPad since last year I have received a few and the worst was when I started using Skype on my TV. Last year I bought a Samsung Smart LED TV with a Skype app which I thought was great; the only downside seeming to be that I had to buy a Samsung webcam. However, for some reason, after I started accessing Skype via the app I started getting lots of contact requests, which was really strange.
