Chinese New Year 2012 in Singapore

This is really a bit too early, I know, but 2012's CNY is indeed earlier than the usual -about 2 to 3 weeks earlier than past years. It's going to be in the last week of Jan 2012 (first day of Lunar New Year is on 23rd Jan 2012 Monday) n I'm really already counting down the months to going home for CNY - had to postpone my flight home (initially for Nov this year) til Jan, so getting a tad impatient and homesick. I will make sure I will cook up a bit of a storm this year for our dearest Ah Ma (maternal granny dearie) ^^

Anyone with interesting news and/or photos of CNY preparations for and of the coming CNY itself, please post something here. I will post when I reach home in a few months' time

Didn't go anywhere much during CNY after all, as was too tired after running all the errands for CNY preparations, as well as catching up with old friends. However, at the suggestion of one of my best friends (she loyally visited it every year), I went to the River AngBao@Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. The river front was entirely transformed into a CNY funfair coupled with street performances and even a corner for taking photos with 1970s old-time Singapore as the backdrop (the old-style living room).

What is this? Is it some kind of games?

It is thick and sticky malt candy made into the shapes of traditional Chinese creatures. The customer can choose to spin the wheel to see which animal he/she gets, and the vendor will create the candy according to it.

Tell me yy .. We are thinking of taking a vacation next year to Singapore. Where can you recommend, and what's there to do there ? I really have no idea ... Always fancied going ... But don't know much about the place. I know we can get a good price on the airfare from Bangkok.

hope u do make the trip and enjoy urself in my hometown. Yes, lookout for Tigerair and Airasia. If you often keep a lookout, it is possible to get a 2way air tix by Tigerair at about S$130 (about THB3300), tax included. You are speaking to a heritage buff and hawker food lover, so for me, Little India, Arab Street, Joo Chiat are all good. For downtown shopping, museuming, art galleries and restaurant food all in one, Bugis Village and City Hall are good places to start.

Maybe you will like to say what sort of activities you hope to do and then we can have a better idea N oh, visiting SG makes a good opportunity to visit neighbouring Malaysia (Johor Bahru for the food and shopping) and Indonesia (the islands of Batam, Tanjung Pinang and Bintan), which can easily each be done as a single day trip to and from SG, especially JB, Batam and Tanjung Pinang.

Thanks yy ... We are going to Krabi this April ... For Songkran week ... But next year we fancy Singapore ... So if we do decide to go .. I'll let you know ok, and take some advice.
