    Re: DONTs in Thailand

I think it may not be accurate in Bangkok-but in the remoter parts of Isaan it still could be -among the elder and middle generations at least.

In my post #3 the shopping malls I refer to are in Bangkok, the public park in Isaan (Sateuk, Buriram) on Sunday afternoons.

But younger generation in both cases-right?
My point was that for all 9 "rules"-particularly 1, 3, 8, 9 that such were more likely to be ignored in large cosmopolitan areas generally-but more likely to be challenged only by the younger "TV/internet " generation in more remote areas.

Actually no, the Thai couple that would appear in the park in Sateuk (right by the standing Buddha statue) each Sunday afternoon appeared to be my age, mid-forties. They made me feel uncomfortable, we had young children with us, and I'm sure such behaviour would not have been tolerated here in Wales without comment.

My -- uhmm -- independent research regarding the sarong-wearing population of Isaan indicates that such a law is neither culturally based nor enforceable in practice. Perhaps this book has something to say about it.
