Re: LDL 84 ~ Will someone please pass the dark chocolate?
I don't even get sent the results -only letters to make appointments. Either have to phone or ask Doc next time I see him. Have been told if they are bad they will contact me then.
Hospital will send me a copy of the results if I have any kind of tests there"There is no such thing as totally useless information"

Re: LDL 84 ~ Will someone please pass the dark chocolate?
My doctor had a practice in Charlotte, N.C., a sizable city, which he gave up for the country life. He says he was tired of paper work for medicare, medicaid, etc. He bought a nice home with a walk out basement and opened his practice there, and lives upstairs. He started charging a flat rate, the same for everyone. I've been told he does some free work also. Recently he changed to accept insurance, medicare and medicaid, keeping the option for the flat fee.
I figure he had made enough money over the years that he could afford to make such a drastic change. What I like most about him is that he is very straightforward. No doubt or question about what he has told you. Oh, and he even makes house calls.
He belongs to a rare breed.

Mine will make house calls-he has even asked directions to my house for future reference.
I have not had a Doctor make a house call in 60 years-long may that continue!

Re: LDL 84 ~ Will someone please pass the dark chocolate?
I don't no what my LDL level is, but I had a recent blood test and the doctor said every thing was normal. Eating food has just never been a hobby of mine, I eat to survive not because I'm hungry however I do eat the occasional chocolate, it's usually if I'm out and a friend offers me some, I don't buy chocolates to eat my self. I usually eat at home when I can, I don't like restraints, how ever I spend a lot of time away from home, so a restaurant is just a source of food, not a pleasure for when I'm away from home as I would not care less if I missed a meal when I'm out, actually I prefer a fast food restaurant, that way I can get the experience over with quickly. The main reason I go to restaurants is because, I try not to miss any meals because I want to maintain my present normal weight.

Re: LDL 84 ~ Will someone please pass the dark chocolate?
You may just have good genes Paul. I hope so.
I usually only eat in restaurants when I travel or am away from home for the day. The exception would be visiting a Thai restaurant and occasionally Mexican. When traveling I usually stick with salads, and carry a muffin from home for morning meals. Everything takes careful planning.
The diagnosis of cardio-vascular disease could have been a death sentence, or an opportunity to know my enemy and deal with it. I chose life, of course. I had surgery on my carotid artery and was back to walking in just a few days, yoga after 2 weeks.
It was clear that a ordinary heart healthy diet was not sufficient. I now use food as a tool by choosing foods which can actually fight bad cholesterol. I was pleased when I saw former president Bill Clinton on television talking about his diet which is very close to mine.
Here is a website which tells about the 12 foods which fight cholesterol: www.prevention.com One of the key things to remember is that more is not better for most of these foods.
Not that you need this advise, Paul.
