    Re: An Indonesian Adventure.

Things that flutter in the night!

I noticed some very colourful little moths during the late evening times, one was walking across the tablecloth as i was waiting for my meal in Moni, it is the yellowy coloured moth in the photo with the black markings. The other pictures are of moths on the walls where i was staying, i particularly like the one moth that seems to have blended it's colours with the wall it is on! These things where realy small and could easily have been missed but with a bit of zooming in on my pc you can see the wonderfull coloures. I am constantly looking up, around and everywhere when i am out and about, there are many things to see. If i see i spiders web, i go looking for the spider, same as if i hear a unusal noise from a bug or a bird i go to try and find it. Some of these little things when you do find them have amazing colours, it would be a shame to have not seen them.

    Re: An Indonesian Adventure.

In Moni while i was having a drink one evening the owners children had captured two of these big bluebottle like fly bugs, very colourfull but to me they looked very scary. The lady owner held one up for me to take a photo, beautifull colours. I do not know what these things are called but the noise from them was incredible. If you have ever heard the loud buzzing in a jungle that seems to be like a two tone sound that increases in volume to a deafening noise then it is these that make it. Every time they where handled they made this most loud noise that made me want to cover my ears it was such a piercing sound. As you can see, both are same same but different, i am guessing a male and female bug.

The black beetle like bug photo was also taken at the same place, so unusual this thing was, it looked like it had unhinged the front part of it's head exposing a spike, you can see from the picture that it appears to have a small hole in which the spike retracts back into when it folds it head back...realy bizzare. It seemed like a rather cumbersome well protected bug, it still scared me.The other two pictures are i think are of a praying mantis, one was stuck on a glass window in a shop i visited the other outside at some other place, i have made this one lighter to show a bit of the detail on it.

Those two look a bit pre-historic. The preying mantis (walking stick) is the one most familiar to me. I saw one just the other day. I guessed it to be around 3" long.

    Re: An Indonesian Adventure.

Here are a few more of our nightime friends, one of the moths shown in a previous picture decided to try and make it to the top of my bottle of beer!A praying Mantis i think is in one of the other pictures.

I am starting to get near to the end of this little trip and i will see what photographs that i may have left that i can salvage and post about. I did return to Ubud for my last few days in Indonesia, i liked it there so much, and i took in another show whils't i was there from which i have a fair few pictures i can show later on, but for now it has been a great experience and thanks to everyone who has followed me on it and hopefully some of the little snippits of information i have posted might be of help to others who may want embark on there trip of a lifetime to Indonesia. But for now i will continue post what other pictures i can find.

    Thank You,

    Billy.

    Re: An Indonesian Adventure.

    Markets,

These photographs are from when i visited a night market on a stop over while travelling to Kelimuto volcano. It was extremely dark at this market, the pathways also where full of large deep holes which you had to be carefull of but it was an amazing place. Stalls where lit up mostly by candle if lit up at all! Others had a small light which was run of a car battery. The fruit and vegetables where as fresh as you can ever get and the smells from the garlic and other herbs and spices where pungent in the air. I would prefare these markets any day compared to the clinical ones back home with all there pre-packed produce! I did ask all the people in these photographs if it was okay to take them, this was out of courtesy because we where of the beaten track so to speak and some people do not like to be photographed.Usualy you lose the moment when it is a posed photo but i was happy with these.

    Re: An Indonesian Adventure.

There was a hot spring that i visited after going to Kelimuto, to be honest i was not impressed at all and time spent elswhere would have been a better option. I can't remember the name of this place or exactly where it was....Betti perhaps can enlighten us if she visited during her trip.....Basicaly it was very run down with a large unkempt car park, and very few visitors when i was there during the daytime, but judging by the rubbish and bottles left by the stream it might have been a bit more busy during the evening times. This was sad because looking beyond all of this there is a very nice warm sulphur fed stream with a beautiful green colour.

I supose this place just needs some form of funding to help clean it up a bit, work was in progress on a large wooden structure while i was there, not sure of what the building will be when renovated but it had a bit of character to it. Just a little way from the stream are toilets, again they where beyond usable, in fact most of the toilet was outside of the toilet, sorry to be a bit graphic but this was how it was when i was there.Putting aside all this the sulphur stream smelt and looked good and was certainly very warm, a few people where bathing when i was there. A little walk around this area you can see some nice flowers and plants. On entrance to the hot springs there is a small fee. This could be a very nice place to visit if cleaned up.
