    Re: Favourite song ...

I have many, but Do Ai is what I will call my favourite, if I have to choose a favourite. It is actually an old Vietnamese folksong but used as the theme song for a 1990s Vietnamese movie titled Three Seasons. I like the meaning of the song as well as its very strong Southeast Asian traditional feel. I'm sure we can't really choose, but given a choice to live all over again, I'm pretty sure that I will want to be born as a Southeast Asian again. There's something so unique and beautiful about Southeast Asian culture and even our natural environment as a whole that is quite different from the rest of Asia. That's why whenever my foreign friends ask about Asia, I always take pains to emphasise with pride that I am Southeast Asian, not simply generic Asian, and then happily cite our SEA specialness - usually our food, climate, our beautiful rainforests, and lastly our folksong and dance, and even our slightly smaller physical frame and darker complexion

This one gives the lyrics and comes from a very touching deathbed scene of the lotus girl singing this song (Do Ai) to the teacher dying of leprosy the song of his happy, long-gone childhood.

This version of Do Ai is the one I enjoy very much - sad yet full of hope for the future.

Yes Maybe we should persuade Susana to jump onto the bandwagon and share hers with us...

Btw, I notice today that I thanked forum members here a total of 888 times thus far. 8 is an auspicious number in Mandarin (because of its similar propounciation to "strike it rich" in Mandarin), so 888 is an especially lucky combination. I hope to keep it this way, or at least, for tonight 5555

    Re: Favourite song ...

YY, my problem is that it is not in my nature to have just one favorite song (book, etc). I have favorite singers and bands, and favorite types of music. Some days my favorite song is the one running through my head when I awake in the morning.

I'll post one soon. Maybe two! Maybe more!

O.K. for the Romantic Side, for a change nothing in English, it's a German Song by very famous German Group "Unheilig", Title: "Mein Stern" can be translated as "My beloved-one":
