    Try this one

I have posted some stuff by them before, Dave Simons (guitar/vocals) has been a mate of mine for over thirty years. Unless you are from north Wales or the north-west of England you are unlikely to have heard of Hozz, they generally do covers of guitar based rock such as Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Stteve Vai etc.

I like different kinds of music for different occasions. Here are a couple of examples

Long before Amy Winehouse sang her very nicely done version of Girl from Imanema, there was this version by Astrud Gilberto, Joao Gilberto, and Stan Getz. from 1963

    Re: Favourite song ...

Malaika, which means "angel" in Swahili is one of the most famous African popular classic love songs. I first heard it when I was learning the language and I instantly fell in love with it! The melodic line is so simple you could learn it in less than half hour. Well, anyway, I did.

Being internationally acclaimed, this ballad has been rendered by various recording artists throughout the world. There are slight variations in lyrics, though. Some singers stylize the melody as well. The jazz versions are quite captivating, I must admit. Also, many feature a lot of percussion ad-libs, handclaps, drums, and a capella chants in the background.

But my favorite accompaniment is the guitar and my favorite version is this disarming duet between Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte which is quite faithful to the original. Enjoy it!

Musically speaking, I have had two life changing experiences. The first was in 1964 upon hearing the song below.

The second was when I heard Beny More sing Como Fue (Like Fire) and Mata Siguaraya (literally meaning Siguaraya Tree/Bush) in the movie 'The Perez Family' (with Alfred Molina & Marisa Tomei).

The past few years I have searched out Latin music, like El Carreta by Buena Vista Social Club.
