Uniquely Singapore Food
The other day, I was at Swensens (Singapore) catching up with some old friends. To my surprise, Swensens has a new dessert on its menu - chendol ice-cream. Chendol is a dessert commonly found in Singapore's hawker centres (and probably also in Malaysia too). It is traditionally a glass or bowl of shaved ice topped with gula melaka (a thick brown cane sugar syrup), sweetened attap seeds, red beans, creamed corn, and wriggly bits of green and red jelly - all swimming in the sinfully good coconut milk.
However, the chendol ice-cream is every bit as yummy as the traditional version of chendol. In fact the creaminess of the ice-cream makes the treat even richer and tastier - for S$7.80.
*Anyone else feel free to post yours* ^^

The Real McCoy - at a local hawker centre, for S$1.50.
The difference? The Swensen's chendol ice-cream is way richer and creamier in terms of its coconut milk (it's ice-cream, after all) and that makes it soooooo good. On the other hand, the humble chendol in its original form is way cheaper and more widely available, and still yummy. If you ask me, I love them both
