    Jade sculptures

I have extensively searched all over northern Thailand for the highest quality jade Buddha sculptures. Even with a lovely Thai local acting as my guide, the finest one I was able to find was at a jade shop very near Doi Suthep. It was very expensive. It took two weeks of turning them down every day before they had enough of me and came down to at least a high price instead of an unreasonable "farung" price. I must admit the quality of the lavender jade and the artistry of the sculpture is exquisite. So, what do you know about any dealers, shops, or artists in Burma (I refuse to call that country Myanmar)? I know I can get a better price. I recently moved to San Jose, CA and there, in a flower shop were some jade sculptures, a bit cheezy in the carving department but the jade itself was of a very high quality. Upon inquiry, I learned these were purchased by the owners' late husband in Burma very near the Thai border although she could not recall the name of the city. Your suggestions are appreciated.

Best stuff I saw was in Mai Sai-on the Thai side of the border with Burma-really nice green jade pieces-ridiculously expensive of course.

The last time I made a visa run, I was not in the market. I spoke to the florist lady again today and she said the pieces were purchased over fifteen years ago. I will check it out next trip.
    Thanks.
