I was amazed today when I discovered that one of my friends who is a regular visitor to Bangkok had never visited Wat Po. He had no idea of how to get there, despite having visited the Grand Palace on several occasions.

I love to visit Wat Po, there are parts of the complex around the back that you can explore away from the tourist masses.

Easiest way to visit is by River Express to "Ta Tatien" Pier. Walk up to the main road and the entrance to Wat Po is diagonally to your right. After you leave Wat Po the Grand Palace main entrance is only 5 or 10 minutes walk away.

I love Wat Pho too. Although I cannot claim to have visited all the Wats in BKK, Wat Pho is my favourite Wat of all, the one I will never forget to visit each time I am in town ^^

I love Wat Pho as well and have visited many times.

Mostly all the Tourists only rush into the Main Building with the Reclining Buddha - and that's it.

But the Temple Ground is such a huge Area and there is so much to discover and see.

You can easily spend 1-2 hours walking around, sitting and relax.

When I was learning Thai foot massage at Wat Pho TTM back in 2009, we (teachers and students) had to do a short little chant to him before the start of each lesson. And traditionally, all the Thai masseurs have to do the same each time before they work on a customer.

After seeing the chateaus in Paris and the castles in Europe and England, the Grand Palace was not enough. When I walked down to Wat Po, Thailand hooked me and caused me to return many times. Thanks for the memories.

I agree that Wat Pho has a special magical feel to it that I can't quite explain, that sets it apart from the rest of the Wats. Even seeing the photos above reinstates me in a mind of calmness and renewed hope amidst a time of stress and deadlines, jadedness and cynicism about humanity

have they finished the renovations? the last 2 times I went, in 2008 and 2010, scaffolding was covering large sections and there were piles of grovel etc, deducting quite a lot from the atmosphere :-(

Not to be confused with Wat Phu (Phou) near Champasak in Southern Laos ... 11th century Khmer Wat. It was part of the Angkorian Empire. Well worth the visit ... about 20km south of Pakse on the W/S of the Mekong River. Well worth a day's visit.
