Cheap Hotel near American Embassy
I have been looking online for a cheap hotel near the American embassy, but have only found rooms well over 1,000 per night. I would like to find something in the 800 - 1000 range. Does anyone know of a good accommodation in the are in that price range?

Re: Cheap Hotel near American Embassy
Have any of the members here actually stayed in this area? Does anyone have a personal recommendation for a place that is not too expensive, but also not too uncomfortable? Remember, my house in Isaan does not even have air conditioning, so I am just looking for a clean room for two with air conditioning and a shower and toilet that work. No "stars" are required.

From a hotel on Sukhumvit my guess is that a meter taxi to the embassy would be around 50-70 baht using the meter. Here are a few places in the Sukhumvit area. You can get to these hotels from the airport or Hualamphong by using rail service and a short walk.

Maxim's Inn.

Orchard Group hotel chain. (Several small hotels, Soi 4 - Soi 6 area.)

Near the above Orchid Inn is a small hotel called Happy Inn. Rooms with air, hot water, TV and private toilet start at 600 baht. Check out more than one room and choose best one.

See it first and then decide. Across from Swan Bar, where the Soi 4 - Soi 6 connector road is.

Business Inn on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 used to have some 600 baht no window rooms. Better 600 baht rooms are over the office. Other cheap rooms in the annex across from the office. For location help this is near the Bangkok Inn and Swiss Park. See it first and then decide. Map:http://www.bangkok-inn.com/e/Location.htm
Good luck.

Re: Cheap Hotel near American Embassy
Thanks again to frostfire. We ended up staing at Maxim's on Sukhumvit Soi 7/1. The room was nice and newly remodeled. The only complaint is that the elevator didn't go all the way up to the level our room was on and we had to climb one short flight of stairs. The hotel is located at the end of the Soi and it is a little tight for the taxi drivers. The hotel staff were friendly and I would stay there again, if I ever found the need to stay in BKK again.
