Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
Well, that's a pretty vague opening post there. ..
You don't mention if you've studied Thai previously, where you are, although your profile name does have a San Diego zip code and you did put California as your location.
Still, there's quite a few things a perspective Thai teacher would need to know BEFORE signin' up to teach you Thai.
Things like;
- What is your current level of Thai (beginner, false beginner, intermediate, etc)?
- Do you want to learn to speak only or to read and write as well?
- Do you have your own materials or would the teacher provide them?
- Are you gonna do online classes like via Skype or are you lookin' for a Thai in San Diego?
- How are you gonna pay someone to teach you Thai, and what are you willing to pay per hour?
- What is your motivation for learning Thai?
Given that Thais make up less than even a single percent of the total world population that would tend to mean you're unlikely to run across 'em anywhere but Thailand; so why do you want to learn Thai?..
BTW: I neither a "Thai girl"
nor a native Thai speaker
, and I sure ain't a Thai language teacher either
.
Be that as it may, welcome to the forum.

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
Frank,
By specifying "young lady" some members ask if it's really a Thai teacher whom you are principally looking for. Perhaps you can explain why that specification?
Tod-Daniels also listed a few details about yourself which would help a prospective teacher decide whether they are suitable to your level or the other way around.

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
There're huge of ways to learning thai, hope would not be a troll. Just my 2 satangs buy a self- study book,or searching for the electronic lessons, before you get a teacher.
As I mentioned at another thread, I wanna learn thai with the purposes, I waste without using it for 10 years, I want to find the way to studying it independence not under the opressive environment. I know that specification requirement is really good intended to study, but you didn't mentioned about your age. I want to study thai in of the public speech level, does anyone also have any suggestion?

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
I do an online language study (not Thai) which allows me to make my own schedule and move along as slowly or quickly as I like.
I cannot recommend a particular one, but I know from what others here say that there are free Thai courses online. I feel confident someone will come along and suggest a good one for you. You have nothing to lose with a free online course. If you don't like it move on to something else, or use it alongside your tutoring. Chok dee, kha.

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
My Thai teacher is a 60 something man. He's a great teacher. If you are interested in learning to speak Thai, I would recommend not having any preconditions for the age or gender of potential teachers.

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
The main factor in finding a good teacher is finding one with experience teaching Thai to non-native speakers. There are very few Thai teachers out there who bothered to get the "certificate to teach Thai as a foreign language" from Srinakharinwirot University(which unless I'm mistaken is the only school offering certification like this with the Ministry of Education).
Foreigners who already possess another language or two aren't gonna learn Thai like a Thai kid does, by having vocab and grammar rules beaten into their heads. The fact that someone's a native speaker doesn't qualify them to teach their language to non-native speakers. I know more foreign engrish teachers working here who have NO business teaching engrish to Thais, yet do..
It would appear we've scared the O/P off. .. Perhaps he was looking for another type of website to interact with Thais. ..
Wow, "billk" that's an awfully OLD Thai to be teaching Thai to foreigners
!! I wonder how "old school" his methodology is. I'd be interested in talkin' with 'em about learning Thai. If you send me a P/M to get a hold of 'em I'd appreciate it.
Still I wish the O/P good luck...

I think if we want to gain knowledge skill about Thai language,we need to spend time on reading Thai books, history book, political, business, folk tale,newspaper,magazine,...

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
Tod, there is nothing "old school" about my teacher. He's a very cutting edge thinker about teaching Thai to foreigners and teaching English to Thais.
I have been learning Thai for seven years now so we probably do some fairly advanced grammar but we also do lots of conversation and do our collective best to keep up with all the latest slang : )You can read blogs about Thailand at - www.Thai-Blogs.com

Re: Looking for a female Thai Language Teacher
Thanx for the P/M Bill.
At least in Bangkok, it's pretty uncommon to find a guy in the field of teaching Thai to foreigners. Most schools are owned by and staffed by Thai women. I just found it interesting, and no disrespect was intended. ..
Sounds like a great teacher!
