Poll: Flood again this year

A majority of people living in provinces hit by flooding last believe their localities will again be flooded this year, Abac Poll revealed on Sunday.

The poll was conducted on 2,074 people between June 1-6 in flood-hit provinces including Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Sing Buri, Chai Nat, Pathum Thani, Saraburi, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Kalasin, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Surat Thani and Songkhla.

The majority, or 70.7 per cent, of those polled believed their localities will again be flooded this year.

A slight majority or 56.0 per cent had little or no confidence in the government being able to properly handle the expected flood while the rest, about 40 per cent, had much confidence in it.

Asked whether they were worried by the possibility of repeated flooding, the majority, or 53.3 per cent, said "yes" while the rest said "no".
