Don Mueang Airport reactivation approved for low cost domestic flights.
Don Mueang's reactivation approved

The cabinet on Tuesday approved a plan proposed by Airports of Thailand Plc to fully reactivate Don Mueang airport to relieve congestion at Suvarnabhumi airport, deputy government spokesman Chalitrat Chantarubeksa said.
He said the plan is to also increase the country's potential in the transport sector, make Don Mueang an alternative airport in case of the unexpected, to increase revenue, reduce accumulated losses, and solve the problem of depreciation of assets at Don Mueang airport.
Under the plan, Suvarnabhumi will remain the main airport for flights connecting regions and Don Mueang will serve mainly low-cost airlines operating domestic flights.
This would optimise the use of the two airports, Mr Chalitrat said.
Agencies such as the Finance, Tourism and Sports, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Transport, Justice, Labour and Public Health ministries, the Anti-Money Laundering Office and National Intelligence Agency would urgently make preparations to support the resumption of full use of Don Mueang airport.
"The prime minister has instructed all concerned to make use of Don Mueang airport and to provide convenience for passengers to the fullest extent," the spokesman said.

The domestic carriers are probably eyeing-up massive savings when they switch back to Don Mueang but I doubt they'll pass on these savings to the consumer.

Nice to hear the airport is being used more. I used Nok Air a few times to go to NE Thailand.
