help with translation (before my boss fires me!) :-)
Hi everybody,
My boss asked me to translate the image in the article below and I can't figure out a way to do it (I'm so far a mandarin student, but unfortunately still not a Thai student).
Below is the link for the article where the table is (no need to translate the whole article, just the small table with a chicken draw in it). It should take 2 minutes to translate since it's just a couple of words.

If someone could help me out with this one I'd really appreciate it!
(and hopefully I'll be back to this forum soon this time as a Thai student
)

It says ตลาดส่งออกสินค้าไก่ไทย 5 อันดับแรก : The first 5 export markets for Thai chicken
They are: Japan, UK, Netherlands, Laos, Germany.
Didn't know we (the Dutch) imported that much from Thailand!

"eric67" pretty much nailed it for you
;
About all I could add is the value of the export is listed as "millions of baht" and that this year (2555) is only for January & February.
It also says this info was compiled from the Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with the Customs Department.

I have that feeling again, that we hardly see the OP again - might be a Troll.
Why would his Boss let him translate something from Thai when he doesn't know any Thai at all, very suspicious

555+
"djaidee" I actually felt the same way. ..
Seeing as it was a fairly innocuous translation I thought I'd chime in.
At least it wasn't another "URGENT translate this" thread ripped from the home page of someone's social network site

It would appear the assessment "djaidee" gave about the O/P is correct.

Another "one hit wonder"
. . . Sad really.

Re: help with translation (before my boss fires me!) :-)
...and after being tarred and feathered of this forum who can blame him/her?
It's the nature of forums that most people just lurk, read, or post a single question and move on.
Greeting new posters with suspicion and calling them names isn't going to change that. All it does is scaring off those 1 or 2 that might become regular posters to a more welcoming forum.
So in a way replying like this becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy: just say they won't come back and low and behold, they won't!
Sad indeed...

Re: help with translation (before my boss fires me!) :-)
You could be correct in that observation "Eric67".
I never looked at it that way really. Forums about the Thai language are "littered" with "Urgent-translate this" posts from new members
. A lot start out with, "I got the SMS from my Thai g/f but can't understand it." Certainly that would raise "red flags" to most readers
. I mean, why would a Thai person send an SMS in Thai if the person it was meant for couldn't read a character of Thai to begin with?
In the case of this thread; we simply questioned why a boss would have a subordinate who can’t read Thai be tasked with translating it into English? Still a pretty accurate translation was given in a timely fashion. Yet the O/P never even popped back in to say thanx, just like most of the posters who put up those "urgent" posts.
Either we toss out translations willy-nilly to every Tom, Dick and Somchai who asks or we try to "vet" them a little bit and risk alienating the poster with our line of questions. Between these “urgent” translation requests and those “mindless” Thai script tattoo threads, I don’t know which is worse. It's a tough balancing act.
I'm all for any Thai language forum growing and gaining new members, and if my posting penchants have driven 'em off, I'm sincerely sorry.
While my take on "all-thingz-thai" doesn't always run "according to Hoyle" and in fact ruffles more than a few peoples' feathers, I always try to be supportive to foreigners who are honestly tryin' to learn the Thai language.

You don't have to worry Tod, but I think the Post by Eric was aimed at me

First of all I didn't want to answer at all as I saw no need in defending myself.
I also try to help Newbies the best I can which might be quite limited, but also I see nothing wrong pointing out if something seems not right and smells rotten.
For cases like this (Spam, Advertise, Trolls etc.) we have a "Report-Post-Button" which I use quite frequently, maybe even more then Posting myself 55555
Maybe I should have done so in this case too, but sometimes I just have the feeling it is not right that such people stay anonymous and maybe it sharpens the sense of other Members to get the feeling that there are many Spammers, Trolls etc. around and that you shouldn't take everything for granted.
It was not my Intention to scare a Newbie off, just telling my Opinion like anybody here on the Forum can do.
I know things like that should be handled with care and maybe I will just use the "Report"-Button in the Future.
But take it like it is I still think that the OP was a ............My interesting blog about Thailand at Thailand Blog ---> click here
