The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) said the King, accompanied by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, will leave Siriraj Pier on board the royal vessel Angsana at 4.30pm.
The cruise will travel upriver to Koh Kret in Nonthaburi province. The King's vessel will travel along Klong Om Kret and Klong Lat Kret, which joins the Chao Phraya River.
His Majesty will then make a stop at the RID to preside over the launch of five royally initiated irrigation projects.
The King will return to Siriraj Hospital about 8.30pm.
Saturday's trip will be His Majesty's second cruise along the Chao Phraya River in less than two years.
On Nov 24, 2010, the King boarded the royal vessel to preside over the opening of Bhumibol 1 and 2 bridges and Klong Lad Pho floodgate in Samut Prakan province.
"His Majesty would like to visit people living in riverside communities which were flooded last year," RID director-general Lertviroj Kowattana said.
A ceremony to launch five royally initiated irrigation projects will be conducted on board the royal vessel, Mr Lertviroj said.
The RID's spokesman Boonsanong Suchartpong said the five projects had been completed and His Majesty had bestowed names to each of them.
The five projects are Khun Dan Prakarn Chon dam in Nakhon Nayok; Kaew Noi Bam Roong Dan dam in Phitsanulok; Thoranit-Narumitr water gate in Nakhon Phanom; Uthokvibhajaprasid water gate in Nakhon Si Thammarat; and Payang Bhumipat water tunnel in Kalasin.
