Demise of a Forum Member ( Woollyback)

We have just received an announcement about the death of Woollyback who joined this Forum early this year. Dave, as he was fondly called by his friends, finally succumbed to esophageal cancer, a malignant tumor of the esophagus. As he described his condition in one of his posts last March:

I personally have been battling cancer for 2/3 years, with the use of chemotherapy. That treatment has stopped now, and it is just my own willpower and positive thinking that is keeping me on the up.

Dave originally hailed from the UK but was residing in Sattahip, Chonburi Province at the time of his death, with Nee, his Thai wife of 18 years. He was a retired Transport Manager.

In the photo attached, he's the one seated on the right (Post#6, by Djaidee). http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/show...?40976-UK-Gang

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Woollyback who are currently mourning his demise. May he rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss, Deland. Any particular memories of him you can share with us? By the way it might interest you to know that his remains lie in state at Sattahip Temple in Chonburi and he will be cremated in the afternoon of 9 August, Thursday.

    Ah memories of Dave!

Well firstly one grumpy git! but with a heart of gold, would help people alot when he wasn't being grumpy!,

I meet him via thailand/uk in 2009 and we used to meet up almost everyday, been on holiday together (in thailand) and used to always meet up on bangsaray beach every sunday with the local crowd!

He also helped me alot with my wifes settlement visa,

Although alot on thailand/uk didn't like how he wrote, When you knew him in person he was ok!

If only he'd stopped smoking!! who knows?

    Bye Dave!!!

Hoistman and wolfy are busy with thailand/uk, i don't mean to put this forum down but thailand/uk is alot better as it's a busy forum with lots going on and mostly brits on there, i'm banned from there for speaking my mind, but really if i wasn't banned i'd still be on there,"But i'll be back" mind you it has way too many controlling "MODS" which spoils it alot,

Wish i could be in thailand now to go to Dave's funeral.

Re: Demise of a Forum Member ( Woollyback)

Sorry, bit late posting about Dave. Yes it was very sad and although I knew it was coming .. It was still a shock when I was told. Dave battled this terrible illness with real courage ... It was only the last few weeks when he really went downhill. I only spoke to him a few days before he passed away. He rang me to say he wasn't well enough for me to visit that day. I suppose that is why I was shocked when he went so quick after that.
He was a good friend, his knowledge regarding living in Thailand and the requirements of different visa's was second to none. He was always very helpful and would go out of his way to assist you with anything. He had a great love of music and enjoyed a song or two at a karaoke bar. A accomplished pool player, and was captain of his local pool team. He always loved a forum meet up and would do the organising, normally in a bar with a pool table
I went to the funeral last Thursday and it was nice to see quite a few friends from the Thai/UK forum and from the local area. I'm sure it was a comfort to his family to see so many come to say goodbye.
Just a few photos I will share ..
    Picture 005-1.jpgPicture 022.jpgPicture 010.jpg

First photo Dave is sat on the end in the yellow stripped t-shirt. Dave and me ... He always drank green tea .. Final photo Dave is in the black t-shirt.

    R.I.P.

Just as a footnote. This is a very good forum. Obviously being English I spend more time on the Thai/UK forum. But this forum has a broader membership and second to none regarding learning Thai.
