    NKP vet signs in

Was stationed at NKP in 71-72.
Really got in to the history and community,
was ready to go back until I saw a video showing
NKP as a modern city now,
guess it was foolish to think that it would be the
same old town that it was in 1972..
love to chat about NKP, Air Force, etc.

My family lives in That Phanom, and not too much has changed. Some people may even say that Nakhon Phanom is still behind compared to Khon Kaen or Udon.

NKP has gotten a bit more modern. I was back there in April of 2012 and must say it is different than the days of the SE Asia Games. I was stationed in Thailand from mid-1972 to mid-1974 with JUSMAG. Traveled from Udon Thani to NKP on many occasions, both by air and road. Some four-lane highways between the two now. Not quite the same as some of the red-clay roads of those former days.

NKP is a bit less Westernized than Udon Thani or Khon Kaen, but it is still far different than those days during the Games.
