Re: Easy Thai Cooking….. in Western Kitchen

^ That looks good, Rob. I have never made "fried" somtom version before, I might have to try it next time.

Today I want to share a fairly easy and effortless dish to make.

    Kao-mok-gai (yellow rice chicken) -¢ÑÒÇËÁ¡ä¡è
Whenever I’m too lazy to cook, I like to make used of a microwave or rice cooker to do the job instead.
Kao-mok-gai is one of those that can turn out pretty well using a rice cooker. I’m using the LOBO brand – about $2.20/package here.

    Steps:
    -Just follow the direction.
-add 1 teaspoon of sugar into the mixed (we like ours slightly sweet)

I have found out that, using smaller chicken pieces or small drumsticks are the best. With my normal time for ricecooker (mine is around 20 mins), anything thicker than 3/4” will not cook thoroughly. So If you like big pieces, just pan fried them first for about 5 min.

-then push “ON” button……. stir everything around at half way through the cooking time
…..some 20 mins later…..WAALAA you have your dinner!

Side condiment: cucumber+shallot salad (I like mine with them, just like in Thailand)
-in a bowl …1 cup warm water, 1 table spoon vinegar, 2 table spoon sugar
-add sliced..cucumber, shallot, hot chilli, a few cirantro/parsley….into the bowl, chill it in refrigerator before serve

You upload them to somewhere other than the Forum and link to them, Robski's picture is actually on Photobucket not here.

One of many ways to enjoy delicious thai foods outside Thailand…is at the Thai Temple near your house. Every fullmoon there is a merit making at our temple. But unlike in Thailand , here the events are normally organized on the weekends, so that many people can come. Because most people have to work during weekdays or in classes (especially students from nearby college and university).

People usually bring food for the monks and make a little extra for the general sharing. You can bring anything you want, Thai food, or American food or anything else's ok. After the monks scoop their food, then all foods get passed to our sharing table. Our temple has many people that are from Thailand, lao, Cambodia, Vietnam, and farangs too. Therefore you'll find lots of goodies from those countries…but noodle soup, bbq, sticky rice and papaya salad are the favorites here. If you like deserts, there are plenty here too.

Here are some pics from my thai temple here in USA…..”Wat Washington”
