Re: The Emu story-Building a Home in Thailand (PHOTOS & VIDS)

I have finally given in to twitter. Should have done it earlier I suppose.

Princess was married a few weeks ago. My wife had a written contract with the new husbands mother, for at least a year, to marry her and pay a sinsod of 100 000 baht, and one baht weight of gold. As the date expired, and the promise was not realised, the relevant parties had a meeting with the village head man and orbitor, or 2ic.
The mother complained that she didn't have the money, but said she would ask her daughters in Bangkok to help out.
At the meeting next day, she offered a very small parcel of land she owned, 1 ngaan, and although very low, this was accepted. However, overnight one of her daughters produced the money to retain the land.

Khoon set the wedding for three days time to seal the deal. We took Princess and boyfriend to a wedding shop in Phu Sing to select outfits, and on the wedding day, we had to be there again for dressing and makeup at 4AM. Wow, Princess was absolutely stunning. This guy is Pooklooks dad, and the couple have been together almost four years now.

On the day, the dowry presented was 110 000 baht, and no gold. Family reps came to be present, but not the mother. Things are still now very bitter between the two families, and his mother has disowned the boy.

Pooklook also is looking very beautiful. A few photos.

Congratulations to the newly-weds! Had been wondering what's keeping them from marrying, since they seemed to be in good terms as a couple. And now the boy's mother has disowned him. If it's not too personal, is she against the marriage, perhaps for financial reasons? If you choose not to answer, it's OK.

By the way, how's Pooklook? Can she walk now?

Here is wishing them and Pooklook every happiness, his mother notwithstanding.

Marie, my impression is that she thought that we might lessen the amount, or that maybe the son should have earned the money.
I had offered earlier to "front" the money so that the wedding would go ahead, but my wife was all over the situation.

Pooklook can walk and run with only the slightest favouring of the left leg. If you didn't know, you wouldn't notice. During the big operation, they loosened the restriction on that leg, and it is possibly as strong as the other.
She has put on a half kilo this last year, and thinks she is a big girl now. She's saying "grandpa doo" (look).

She started school this year, (kindie) and enjoys it.

Wow, I can see she walks and runs like any normal girl. The doctors have done a splendid job on her!

Things are moving along with building the Thai toilet. I have elected to do all the work I possibly can by myself. I needed help to lift the roof on, and will need help to mix cement and pour the slab. I have already had one incident, trying to align/ brace the columns, one dropped and damaged the cover over the septic tank. 400 baht to replace the column. The clothes line is to be relocated as well. Also, I have had to put digging down the yard on hold.

I was due a 90 day visa hop, so decided to go to Preah Vihear in Cambodia for a ride. My wife is uncomfortable on long trips on the bike, so I was a happy free agent. I love my wife, but I do like to be a lone wolf sometimes, and stop where I want, have a feed, have a beer, and talk to people. It's different. I actually met an American guy in a small village. He is originally Cambodian, born in Thailand, returned to Cambodia, and refugeed to America at 1 year old. As an adult, he was arrested for grand theft auto, and while on bail, absconded, and now has to live out his days as a pauper in Cambodia. He is learning Khmer.

Cambodia is much cleaner than I found it 4 years ago. Although it is still like the wild west compared to Thailand. This furniture factory on the river is living on borrowed time. And the blue bank here, has guard persons who come to lock the customers bike before you go in. I declined, as I was just going to get some American bucks from the ATM.

I finished the roof of the toilet today. I still need one ridge cap tile, and the facia tiles. I had tiles left over from the car port, which is why we have this style roof, and it only cost 1600 baht for the extra tiles.
four guys to carry and place the roof, and the relocated, and refurbished clothesline.

The defensive array of bamboo has been deployed. In 12 months, we will see a marked difference along the fenceline. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet.

There is a problem with the links. Copy right click will give the option to go to it.
