I have grown grapow/holy basil and did not find it particularly hot on it's own. However, it is definitely different than the Genovese/sweet basil which most Americans seem to prefer. Now that I have read the following article which explains it's use with peppers and spices I believe I will grow it again.

Actually its my mood which decides how spicy I can eat. sometimes I am very ok with very spicy, sometimes I am not

For me it is less "mood' and more how my stomach is feeling! I had some pad kee mow and beef laub yesterday that tasted fantastic.
I am really missing Thailand.
