And, YY, I hope you share lots of photos of your trip to Sukothai.

Might we suggest a "Photos" sub-forum, a place to share our photos? I think Guava's "process" thread has become a bit of a catchall.

That way, we can start individual threads with individual subjects.

I second that! Personally I would not mind my photos being critiqued (with kindness ) by more advanced photographers as well.

I think I suggested this in the past to Richard and nothing came of it-certainly nothing to stop us starting a thread here with a title something along the lines of "Member's Photos (Only)"

YY, I have confidence that your photos will be good enough for show and tell here! I may never get to Sukothai, so I am really looking forward to you sharing your adventure here. How is your camera set up coming?

I finally got my camera yesterday evening and although I never have buyers remorse I did have a moment of buyers panic with the thought "NOW what do I do?"

Charge the battery, get the manual on the computer screen.......one step at a time...

I might be receiving more tips than I give. I'm definitely not technologically talented. I prefer everything to be self explanatory.

Re: Photography questions & tips for beginners

I hope you have fun with the cameras. I started using auto settings and playing but have had SLR and DSLR before. I also had the manuals reprinted as I hate online manuals. I like to read them in bed and when using the manual find it convenient to be able to go from section and page to another to check things. The newD7100 manual that came with it was too small for my old tired eyes to see it.

I also bought a guide to use the camera which went into greater depth than the Nikon "details" and I have found that really helpful. I still haven't read it through as still busy at work. So much for retirement.

My wife has suggested I join a photography club which I am thinking about.
