    A bit

A photography buff friend of mine takes a photo of ALL his bags, gadgets, etc before leaving for a trip so he can take an accurate inventory of them when he packs to go home.

    Do you also do that?

No I have never thought of doing that ...
BTW I think it is a good idea for people , remind of what you bring and pack your gears back home .

P.s. I forget a tripod bag somewhere in southern thailand trip, once I noticed about it, I was in BKK already..... too late.

Yes-I have lost a tripod bag as well-ridiculously expensive to replace as they come free with the tripod.

Great idea-also worth leaving a copy of the photo in "Dropbox" or similar should you lose or have any kit stolen

Taking a starting photo, on the memory card, of all your contact info, isn't a bad idea either. That way, if you happen to get separated from your camera, and it is found by an honest person, they can contact you.

I have never done that. For me my photographic equipment is the most important thing that I carry, especially used memory cards. I know exactly what I have brought (same every trip). My camera takes Compact Flash and SD cards, I use Compact Flash as the primary card with RAW files being saved there, my SD card is used as backup saving High Res J Peg files.

One tip I do have, something that I always do..... Every used compact flash card (the cards that hold my RAW files) always go into my waist pack along with passports, bank cards, travellers cheques, extra currency etc. these remain locked in the hotel safe.
