I must admit this topic has gripped my curiosity. More and more all this has sparked a burning interest on my part to learn about contemporary Chinese culture. LOL The current behavior of Chinese tourists in Thailand is simply intriguing, to put it mildly. And I am tired of guessing why, though it's fun. I am sure some specialists or scholars on Chinese studies can provide a satisfactory explanation from a sociological perspective. But I haven't found anything on the net! Does anyone know of any helpful link or informative reference material?

    Hi

    not an expert but

Have degree in sociology and was married to a Chinese national and visited China not as a tourist but in areas tourist don't go.

the Chinese are not uncouth or dirty in fact very clean compared to western standards.
I think the problem lies in cultural or their feudal system that they have lived under for generations
the upper class does not lift a hand in daily chores it is beneath their perceived social status. there is always an underling to clean up for them "even wipe their butt" so to speak.

so as the Chinese gain economic might and travel abroad {money equals power and status} they feel there should be underlings to clean up after them. as they feel superior and above the Thai's.

and Chinese work culture is very cut throat, lots of intimidation and yelling and anger lots of confrontations people clawing over others to get to the top so when they travel sometimes act the same way.

but I am sure with a some they are just self centered lazy jerks who don't care about anything but themselves, but every country has a few of those. LOL

Money has never been able to buy class and taste-regardless of nationality.

My apologies here to all the Thai Chinese, but this is what Mr. X used to say about the Chinese shop owners along the street outside our family compound.

I too am curious about how Chinese tourists behave in countries other than Thailand. When I flew into Mexico City there was a Chinese group at the airport. I only saw them gathering their luggage, and all seemed quiet at the time.

When this topic came up here I tried to find some information on Chinese tourist behavior in Mexico, but could not find anything. Does that mean they are model tourists elsewhere? Or do they have a different attitude toward Thailand?

I think your observation is very good. The feudal system, I am very aware of.

They had better not try that in London or some of the other cities in the UK!
