I've been reading a book entitled "What is Relativity?" and it makes an interesting observation.

According to the latest advances in the understanding of the spacetime continuum (i.e. a 4 dimensional perspective of the universe), everything a person (or anything for that matter) does - good or bat, never disappears. It becomes part of the fabric of the universe.

So if you have ever done anything to be ashamed of, that event is tied to your life for eternity.

I find it interesting how Buddhist Dhamma seems to dovetail quite nicely with science.

    trangam,

If I understand you correctly, you are stating that you believe that kamma (or karma) is a moving (i.e. boxcar) average of only the last second and the next second??

I was under the impression that Buddhist Dhamma described kamma as the total, on-going accumulation of all your events, not just the most recent ones.

Am I misunderstanding what you have written?

As for the book on relativity, it stated that bad deeds (or any deeds for that matter) never fade away, but exist in spacetime forever.

Theoretically, if people ever discover a method of time travel, they could go back and find these events in the past, still just as "valid" as when they first occurred.

This is in direct contrast with the dogma of many religions that say your sins can be washed away by seeking and accepting forgiveness from a supreme deity.

Its just my interpretation I think we learn, do good, do bad and all that is part of where we have arrived till now. Its but natural, we should start from where we have left. Similarly, our soul's connection with the world and how we relate with it evolves maybe. So next life, we start from where we have left.

Makes sense, trangam. We learn from our mistakes and move forward to a better place in our journey. We die, and have a good starting point for the next life. Is this right?

When reading the Dhamma it is interesting in how the Lord Buddha spoke of such mundane things as how you wake up in the morning can effect your kamma.

Wake up happy and full of vigor results in good kamma. Wake up slowly and grumpy results in bad kamma.

    Makes for some interesting reflection.
