Who Will Qualify for the Next Republican Debate?
See who is likely to make the cut, and who's on the bubble, for the next GOP debate

    "Currently Would Qualify
CNBC will use an average of support in polls to determine which Republican presidential candidates will qualify for the main stage at the next debate on Oct. 28. The network will consider polls sponsored by six media organizations released between Sept. 17 and Oct. 21. CNBC has declared a cutoff of 3% but has said any candidate with 2.5% or higher will be rounded up to 3%."

Trump video highlights Bill Clinton praise
Instagram video is mash-up of Bill Clinton public appearances

    UPDATED 5:09 PM CDT Oct 20, 2015

WASHINGTON (CNN) Donald Trump is highlighting the support of a politician who, without a doubt, does not back his presidential campaign.

But in an Instagram video posted Tuesday, former President Bill Clinton offers appears to shower praise on Trump in an edited mash-up of public appearances.

But Clinton, of course, is married to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and supports her bid for the White House.

Pulling clips of Bill Clinton explaining the appeal of Trump's presidential campaign in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria late last month and on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," the Trump campaign opens the video with a suggestive question: "An endorsement from Bill Clinton?"

"He's a master brander," the former president says in the mash-up. "And he's the most interesting character out there ... And there is a, a macho appeal to saying I'm just sick of nothing happening, I make things happen, vote for me."

The 15-second video interlaces audio of Clinton praising Trump with images of the billionaire on the campaign trail and ends with an emphatic "Thank you Bill!!!" message on the screen.

Re: Fox News announces candidate line-up for prime-time debate

Rachel Maddow, who is moderating the Democratic Forum (debate) this week, had this to say about the Republican debate:

Rachel Maddow Tears Into CNN Debate Format: 'It's A Total Mess'
The network raised the arbitrary limit on debate participants from 10 to 11.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow mocked CNN's debate lineup Thursday, announced moments before her show began.

Following Fox News' lead, CNN had originally said it was limiting the number of candidates participating in the debate to 10 -- a totally arbitrary number. But on Thursday, the network announced it would just as arbitrarily allow 11 candidates on the stage.

"In the first Republican debate last month, for some reason, the host of that debate, The Fox News Channel, decided that even though there were 17 candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination, they, The Fox News Channel, would only allow the magic number of 10 of those candidates to appear in the debate," Maddow said.

"I believe this was a fairly ridiculous decision," she added.

Having the remaining seven candidates participate in a secondary debate was "a really big insult to those candidates," said Maddow, who appeared baffled as to why CNN decided to stick to the same format Fox News used two months ago.

"It's one thing for Fox to kind of fudge this. For CNN to do this, it’s just — it’s worse than catch-as-catch-can," she said. "I won’t say what I really think it is. I find it amazing that this is the way that any major political party is picking their presidential candidate this year. It’s a total mess."

Marco Rubio - Hillary Clinton's worst nightmare? By Tom Geoghegan BBC News, Washington

Hillary Clinton has strengthened her position as the Democrat to beat in her quest to become the country's first woman president. But the biggest obstacle in her path to victory could be a young senator who few outside Florida know much about.
If Republican strategists were to assemble their ideal presidential candidate in a factory, a product resembling Marco Rubio would come rolling off the conveyor belts in a perfect package.
    Young. Tick.
    Clear communicator. Tick.
    Good on television. Tick.
    American Dream life story. Tick.
    Strong Hispanic appeal. Tick.
Keeps gaffes to a minimum. Tick.
While other Republicans have gained far more attention, the 44-year-old Cuban-American has been quietly impressive.
