Ricoh Theta S 360 degrees camera

I just bought a new toy at the Photo Fair at BITEC Bang Na. Itís a Ricoh Theta S 360 degrees camera. The price was 14,990 Baht which is about 2,000 Baht more than in the US. I will embed some of my work below and will hopefully do a review in a week or so.

Re: Ricoh Theta S 360 degrees camera

Two criticisms I would have is that, since it's focal range is 10cm to infinity, distance objects are very soft.

The other thing is pretty severe chromatic aberration - purple fringing. However, since this shoots a rather extreme wide angle, CA is to be expected. A lese that would not manifest CA would cost more than the camera!

What kind of editing software is provided or what can be used?

Its all edited in the camera and then copied across to your smartphone where you can upload to social media. It takes less than a minute to do all of that from the time you press the shutter. Editing apps have started to come out now as it is open source.

I'm taking it to Kanchanaburi at the weekend. An obvious place to do a 360 degrees shot is the bridge. If I'm not so near anything I won't get the distortions. I just need to work out the tripod. In the above two shots you can clearly see the handle of the tripod.

Very interesting Richard. I'm wondering though, does it take the whole image at the same time, or rotate through it? Good choice of subject.
If it's not true, don't say it. If it's not yours, don't take it. If it's not right, don't do it.

It's like a normal camera, press the shutter and it's done. It then processes the image for about 10 seconds in-camera. You can then transfer to your iphone to post on social media. To be clear, it has two lenses. One on each side.
