If you drink enough liquids it is no problem at all.
If you look at some tribes that eat extreme amounts of salt.....salted fish, spearhunting fisher they don't have any kidney problems.

The problem is, if being extreme overweight, problems with sugar (high blood sugar damage the kidney, a damaged kidney of course can't handle extra workload), lots of protein in your diet (which is automatic if you eat way too much), high blood pressure, no exercise etc... than too much salt might be too much for the overloaded body.....

20 years ago at university the professors already banged their head against the wall about that salt nonsense. If you drink enough the salt leaves the body as fast as you eat it. If you don't drink enough, you dehydrate and that brings big stress on the kidney and it kind of poison itself. But that is a complete different problem....Problem of not drinking enough.

In Thailand with the lots of sweating it can even happen that you have too little salt, therefor every 7/11 sells these rehydration salt bags which you have to mix with water. Salt with some flavor....

"adding that the number of patients requiring dialysis has increased about 15 percent annually." Look up how the average body weight in Thailand increases and how the rate of diabetics increase. In Thailand 8% of the population has diabetics. They must leave out the coke not the fish sauce to help their kidney.
When I read the above, I automatically took it with a grain of salt--forgetting that that's bad for my kidney!

Take it with a grain of salt The Family Health Guide

    Salt in circulation

It’s the sodium in salt that causes most of the problems. The human body can’t live without some sodium. It’s needed to transmit nerve impulses, contract and relax muscle fibers (including those in the heart and blood vessels), and maintain a proper fluid balance. It doesn’t take much to do this.

When you get more sodium than you need, the kidneys flush out the excess by making more, or saltier, urine. If they can’t get rid of enough sodium, though, it accumulates in the fluid between cells. Water inevitably follows sodium, and as the volume of this fluid increases, so does the volume of blood. This means more work for the heart and more pressure on blood vessels. Over time, this can stiffen blood vessels, leading to high blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke. It can also lead to heart failure. There is also some evidence that salt can directly affect the heart, aorta, and kidneys without necessarily increasing blood pressure.

Some people are exquisitely sensitive to salt — their blood pressure rises and falls as a direct result of how much salt they get. Others don’t seem to be affected at all. Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy test to determine who is salt-sensitive.

Hundreds of studies have looked at the connections between salt intake and blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and mortality. In general, they show that cutting back on salt lowers blood pressure and reduces the chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

Supper last night: salmon cakes & salad w. cider vinegar vinaigrette - Yum!

No salt added. Vinaigrette had a bit of honey.

    Hi

the body is a great and efficient machine and can handle small amount of semi toxic material .
the problem is the over use and lack of maintience most people put on their bodies. thru over eating lack of exercise and mental stress.

the majority of people in western society do not eat for substitence but for enjoyment or pleasure or comfort and most choices are made thru mass marketing and convienence. not common sense.

thus the problem is no common sense in food selection lack of personal responsibility and then relying on health system to cure or solve your condition thru use of drugs which are usually worse than the problem.

food is a joy and is great to share but to eat anything without checking it's source is unwise.

when I first came to Thailand didn't have a kitchen most of my meals and snacks were 7/11, had to get health certificate for work permit my blood pressure was so high. never before, I was pissed at my self stopped eating anything at 7/11 and got new apt with kitchen ,next month checked blood pressure was back to normal,
