    Sometimes you may see these openly on sale in markets and elsewhere. Still not legal. Don't buy.

    There are lots of things that are deemed "illegal". Like the original section of the Great wall of China i visited recently. It's forbidden to go there, but not enforced. The problem starts when people begin taking a piece of the wall home with them, leaving rubbish and causing damage. Ultimately it's going to have a negative effect and spoil it for everyone else, because then they will enforce not being able to go there. Same with the sea shells (and many other things). If you're taking a nice shell home you find on the beach, that'll fit in your pocket - i'm ok with that. But if you're taking a bag full of shells or giant ones, as shown in these pictures (that's not for some ones personal collection now is it - they're going to sell them), then NO, don't do it.
