thumbs up Can you speak/write the Thai language?

    Hi everyone,

I came across this forum by searching for a platform to learn Thai online. I also like the fact that this forum allow me to learn more about Thailand without the usual discussions on bar girls etc.

Thank you for your time reading my introduction.

Anyway, here's a poll to see how many members are able to speak or write Thai (understanding bits and pieces of Thai words falls into the category of "I can't do both")

Welcome to this site, Nodnerb! I appreciate your interest in learning Thai. However, while it is so easy to answer your poll, I am curious what it is for?

    Cheers!

Simply curiosity more than anything, really. Was just wondering what is the amount of Thai literate folks here.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Aside from a short 2 week trip in 2012, I haven't been to Thailand in 8 years and I rarely use the language here in Florida. (I'm a farang, by the way). Oddly, I still haven't forgotten how to speak and write Thai. It stuck with me. Go figure.

I can speak what I call market Thai, but I haven't used it in so many years that I'm forgetting most of what I knew. At one time I could follow a conversation fairly well, but was not really conversant except when I was with a small group of special people.

    That's quite admirable, Mulana! 555

As for me, I took Thai lessons many years ago in a formal classroom and with a private tutor. I was also aided by self-study learning resources. And so I learned how to speak, read and write Thai.Maybe it's more accurate to say I acquired a 'working knowledge'. But alas, through the years that knowledge slowly declined as the steam dissipated. I only get to use Thai now when I visit Thailand.
