Re: Yingluck trial: Thais seek ex-PM after she fails to show for verdict

Yes, both YS & TS are not the junta's biggest threat, however the junta went after them like they are the sole and only reason for the mess in Thailand. It was a fight between the high class vs the lower working class and the high class won. YS & TS really went out to uplift the poor and the high class hated it. Maybe the high class is still stuck in the old way of thinking, "keep them poor keep them loyal".

When the junta talks of a "mind-set change" and "implementing political reform for a democratic government" then I can only feel sorry for Thailand. Thailand was a democracy with a government voted in by the majority of the people. What other democracy is there..........the junta comes from the army, which is a organisation so far removed from a democracy in anyway so what makes the junta thinks they know what a democracy should be???

Exactly. No maybe about the elite being stuck in the old way of thinking-remember, some of them think the "Buffalo" should not have the vote as they are too easily misled!

PAD to demand accountability for Yingluck’s escape
in Politics | August 27, 2017 | By Thai PBS

The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will on Monday demand a clarification from the junta about its alleged failure to prevent the escape of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra out of the country.

The PAD on Saturday issued a statement at its Ban Phra Arthit headquarter, noting that Ms Yingluck’s exit out of the country has undermined public trust in the judicial system and the security mechanism.

PAD spokesman Panthep Puangpongpan said a key member of the movement, Mr Veera Somkwamkid, would on Monday travel to the Government to demand accountability of those in charge of security affairs.

Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Flees to Dubai

Sources in the party said Ms Yingluck left the country last week and flew via Singapore to Dubai where her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who lives in self-imposed exile

BANGKOK – Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has fled to Dubai, senior Pheu Thai Party members said on Saturday, a day after she failed to show up for a negligence ruling in which she faced up to 10 years in prison.
Puea Thai Party sources said Yingluck left Thailand last week and flew via Singapore to Dubai where her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who lives in self-imposed exile to avoid a 2008 jail sentence for corruption, has a home.

Is Yingluk guilty or innocent?..... I really dont know, but whatever her level of culpability with the rice scheme, the smartest thing she has done so far was to "get out of Dodge"...... she was never going to get a fair shake in the government controlled Thai legal system.

Of course the trial was rigged-they started seizing her assets as "compensation" before the "trial" was anywhere near delvering the verdict.

I'm surprised she waited this long. Hadn't she gone for a visit somewhere a couple years ago? I think I would have stayed away then.

Re: Yingluck trial: Thais seek ex-PM after she fails to show for verdict

I think she wanted to fight-if only to show up the Junta for what it is, and not to be seen to run at the first signs of trouble. Then she saw that the odds were totally fixed against her and there was nothing to be done. I think the Junta wanted her to go-the whole exercise being to expel the Shinawatra family from Thailand to save them and their friends future trouble. Hope her partner and son managed to get out as well.
