The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has come under a barrage of criticism after the agency disclosed it was considering adjusting its rule that bars holders of political positions from receiving gifts worth more than 3,000 baht.

The move, which could see the cap of the gift price raised, has caught flak from various quarters, including the Anti- Corruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT), politicians and activists, who said it could encourage corruption.

No time frame set for probe into Prawit’s luxury watches
in Breaking News, Politics | January 15, 2018 | By Thai PBS

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) won’t set specific timeframe for authorities to investigate the deputy prime minister, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, over his possession of several luxury wristwatches that were not declared as required by the anti corruption law.

This was disclosed on Monday by NACC President Pol Gen Watcharapol Prasarnratchakij after he was asked by reporters on the progress of the probe.

He said there was no specific time frame for the probe as the case is the centre of public attention that needed careful consideration.

But he assured that the probe would be conducted under the law procedure, and cautious step had to be taken particular on new releases of photographs exposing more wristwatches he wore.

    Hi

Why does anyone need a watch in Thailand. Not to tell time as every thing runs on Thai time LOL

Only wear watch to show off and for ego. 1 or 2 expensive watch understandable. But 11? OMG

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Tuesday he is ready to step down from the cabinet if the anti-graft agency found the case against him has grounds.

Gen Prawit told reporters at Government House that he will resign if the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) concludes in the investigation that he had committed wrongdoing over the wristwatch saga.

The watches belonged to his friends and all have been returned, he added.

The luxury wristwatch scandal embroiling Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon is undermining the credibility of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, says the Democrat leader.

Echoing remarks made by many political observers and the media, Abhisit Vejjajiva said if the issue was not contained, public sentiment would turn against the government.
