Business operators in Krabi have voiced concern over lax security in the southern tourist province after more than 80 surveillance cameras in tourist spots were found to be dysfunctional.

According to sources, 48 CCTV cameras at commercial areas at Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara beaches went out of service after they were not taken care of soon after their warranties expired.

Another 33 surveillance cameras at tourist spots in Phi Phi Island were also reported to be out of order.

All these CCTV cameras were installed three years ago with the budget of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and were managed by Krabi Tourism Police.
