Police plan to call construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta and his three co-accused for questioning next week about illegal hunting in the World Heritage Thungyai Naresuan sanctuary in Kanchanaburi.

Investigators have already questioned national park officials and are now compiling evidence against the accused poachers, said Pol Col Poonsak Prasert, deputy chief of Kanchanaburi police and head of the team handling the case.

They are in the process of making an appointment for Mr Premchai, the president of SET-listed Italian-Thai Development Plc (ITD) and those who were arrested with him. Investigators expect to coordinate with Mr Premchaiís legal team about the time and place for the questioning.

    Too connected to fail?

Sia Prem and three friends went out hunting for a new, black leopard throw rug and all we got was this disgusting news story.

Full disclosure. We've done some hunting, but are absolutely mystified over the thrill of shooting the last known Indochinese leopard in Thailand, let alone gutting and spreading it out in preparation to make it an animal-skin rug.

One of the most beautiful cats in the world, the Indochinese leopard (left) is measured as a throw rug for a luxurious Bangkok home. (Photos supplied)

Are there really rich people in Bangkok who would be exhilarated to take off their shoes and walk over that skin and ask for the whole story of how the Great Hunter faced down the cat and shot it in the head? And then ask, "Uh, could you get one for me, please?"

The last time the public saw Premchai Karnasuta was on Feb 5, but police are confident the mega-rich Italian-Thai Development (ITD) president remains in the country.

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said on Monday there were no reports from the Immigration Bureau of Mr Premchai departing the country.

I doubt he will run away.

In a country where the rich can kill other people without any recourse or remorse, I doubt poaching will cost very much.

Unless he is a known red shirt supporter ...
