    thumbs up

As some of you know, we are currently putting together the Ultimate Bangkok Guidebook (Actually, that is quite a good name for the web site! Thanks, we'll make some changes to the title). Anyway, to make it the best web site about Bangkok we would like to call on the help of all members of our forums. Over the next few weeks we will be asking you to contribute suggestions and tips for holidays to Bangkok. If you have already been there then we need your help!

Today we are trying to compile a Top 10 list of Bangkok Attractions. What would you say are the ten things everyone should try and visit or experience during a holiday in Bangkok?

To get you started, here is our list in no particular order:

    1. Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew
    2. Wat Pho and Reclining Buddha
    3. A boat ride on the Chao Phraya River or Thonburi Canals
    4. Muay Thai fight
    5. Thai Dancing at the Erawan Shrine
    6. Shopping at the Weekend Market
    7. Jim Thompson's House for traditional Thai buildings
    8. Vimanmek Teak Mansion
    9. Chinatown
    10. Suan Pakkard
Help support the forums by making a donation today. Thank you.

I am mostly in agreement with your list, but maybe add one of my own favourites which is early morning in Lumphini Park, strolling along watching the leisure activities followed by breakfast sat in the shade of the trees. Very rarely another farang in sight

Incidentally for added interest, I would recommend travelling to the sights on the list by either Skytrain or River Express wherever possible.

    * Rose Garden
    * At least one tuk-tuk ride is a must as they’re an integral part of Thai life

What about visiting a Muay Thai camp like Fairtex or Kaewsamrit.

Or a traditional Thai massage. Many good places in BKK...

I was thinking about how much will be left off your Top-10 list if that is to be the only list, given how much there is to see and do in Bangkok. If this is to be the ultimate guide, it should have everything we can possibly think of to satisfy the varied tastes of travelers. So I would go with a number a specialty Top-10 lists, with each one listing the most popular items from #1 on down. Then take the top items in each specialty list and combine them into the ultimate Top-10 list. Something like this:

    Top-10 list for culture -
List all the Wats, dancing venues, museums, buildings and places of architectural interest, etc.....

    Top-10 list for shoppers -
List all the centers, malls, markets, and specialty places.

Top-10 list for nature lovers -
Gator park, snake show, public parks, national parks, safari world, etc.

Top-10 list for entertainment seekers -
List all the recommended restaurants, shows, Muay Thai stadiums, etc.

The Top-10 ultimate list could then take the top 1, 2, or 3 items - depending on how many specialty lists you create - from each specialty, for an all-around 'must see' experience.
