    Spanking is not uncommon.
Life is learning. If you stop learning, you might as well be dead.

A girl I know (in Thailand) got a broken finger from being hit on her hand with a stick by her teacher. She had been talking when she should not in class. This is some years ago though.

same story many places in the world realy. You know there are also European countrys like Slovenia where spanking is the way to fix things.

I would much rather children associate violence with negative consequences than work. After all, viewing work as punishment makes one's entire life a drudgery.

I have always considered work a drudgery, that's why I worked hard to retire in my early 30's.
Now work can be a form of punishment and drudgery, when you are not rewarded with your effort, like earning zero income when working or not creating any benefit for your self.
Now if you work, and receive a reward at the same time, the drudgery is no wear near as bad. The income or benefit from your work may out balance the drudgery.
