    Hi guys.

I would like to suggest the webmaster to create a list of Sanskrit/ Pali loan words in Thai language on this website.

The forum members could contribute to the list.

Let me start the firsttwo words:

วิทยา : Withaya. English: science, knowledge, learning, from Sanskrit Vidya.

ภูมิ : Phumi. English: earth, ground, soil, from Sanskrit Bhumi.

Re: Sanskrit / pali loan words in thai

I know this post is years out of date, but hey...

According to an estimate by Rikker (of rikkier.blogspot.com), 25% of words in the RID 1999 have Sanskrit/Pali origin.

    That's a lot of words...

I'm currently looking to learn a bit more Pali and Sanskrit to improve my Thai.

There's some useful stuff here: http://www.thai-language.com/ref/pali-sanskrit-affixes

Re: Sanskrit / pali loan words in thai

It's better to have Pali and Sanskrit institute rather to compare about the derivation for particularly person who really want to dedicate studying it.
