On arrival in Thailand, we will be using 2 phones and I need to know what the cost per minute for cell phone service in Thailand. Also who provides the best overall service. It would also help if I knew the cost for calls to the USA. I will need the 2 phones for about 3 weeks.

If you buy yourself a SIMcard from Happy, it will be cheaper.

Does any unlocked mobile work in Thailand if I buy a SIM card when I'm there? Last time nobody could believe I didn't have a mobile with me so I think I should 'get with it' and take mine next time.
... while I'm here asking about phones ... is talking on a phone a national past-time in Thailand? A lot of the hotel staff were on mobiles for 30-45 minutes a time to their friends and family and also the public seemed to talk on mobiles a lot.
Or is it just that Westerners/farang don't talk to family/friends as much as Thais do and this is another cultural difference I noticed?if you can't find the needle, burn the haystack

I really recommend getting a thai sim as its cheap for international calls, i thought so anyway, a text was 9baht to england it costs that much from mobile to mobile in england! I cant remember the cost of overseas calls but i do remember it was cheaper then my home networks. If you want Thai to Thai calls there are many packages some for a mere half baht/min.
I think though that you now need ID to get a thai sim due to bombings and people using mobiles in the south to set them off.
