    Guest house in Chiang Mai

    hello

can someone point me to some good guest house sites in chiang mai? esp those near or within short walking distance to the night market. most agents only list hotels and resorts, not guest houses.

do you normally pre-book guesthouses before arrival, or do you book upon arrival? if so, from where?

pardon my ignorance, but are guesthouses suitable for children? ie do they put an extra bed, and stuff like that?

and do they normally serve breakfast like most hotels do?

    thanks!

Gueshouses don't usually serve breakfast for free. Though often they have a restaurant within the grounds. The suitability will vary greatly. Some might not be suitable for children and others will. As guesthouses are often small enterprises, you cannot usually book in advance.

From our own experience, it is sometimes cheaper or not much more expensive to stay in an established hotel.

    thumbs up

In the area of the Night Bazaar, I would highly recommend the Galare Guest House. It's situated on a quiet soi along the Ping River only 2 blocks from the Night Bazaar. Click here for reviews.

Galare Guest House is a mid-range choice which is very popular with the NGO set and is in a lovely setting on the Ping River, within easy walking distance of the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. Rooms are clean and well kept and the management here are particularly friendly. There is a pleasant garden area with a restaurant overlooking the river, along with a lawn garden area towards the centre of the guesthouse. Often full in high season, a reservation is a good idea. Popular with families and shoppers.

    Also, here is their website.

    Hi,
I do not know much about guesthouses near the Night Bazaar. You may want to consider a budget hotel. I've stayed in Night Bazaar Inn twice. It's like a business hotel. Rooms are comfy and clean. Rates are at about 600baht. And just 5min walking distance from the main night bazaar shopping stretch.

The guest houses I've stayed were around the old city area. All accepted bookings by phone and there's no need to pre-pay. I think the Inn above also accepts phone bookings.
