Here is the King's New Year message with some of the words below to make it a bit easier for (English-speaking) non-Thais to read, and a partial translation from the Bangkok Post. I found it interesting to read what the King had actually said in Thai, and the message is quite easy to understand once you know the words. Hope this is useful to some of you and please let me know if there is anything strange about the wordlist (too many words, too few words, strange English, etc.) Thanks.

On the evening of December 31st, His Majesty the King of Thailand confers New Year blessings for 2546 on the people of Thailand

ในคืนวันที่ 31 ธ.ค. พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ได้พระราชทานพรปีใหม่ 2546 แก่พสกนิกรชาวไทย ความว่า

ประชาชนชาวไทยทั้งหลาย บัดนี้ ถึงวาระที่จะขึ้นปีใหม่ ข้าพเจ้าขอส่งความปรารถนาดี มาอวยพรแก่ท่านทุกๆคน ทั้งขอขอบใจท่านเป็นอย่างมาก ที่มีไมตรีจิตสนับสนุน ข้าพเจ้าในภารกิจทั้งปวงด้วยดีเสมอมา ในขวบปีที่แล้ว มีเหตุการณ์หลายอย่าง เกิดขึ้นในบ้านเมืองเรา แต่มีเรื่องหนึ่งที่ควรกล่าวถึงเป็นพิเศษ ก็คือ การให้ความช่วยเหลือแก่ ผู้ประสบภัยเมื่อคราวน้ำท่วมใหญ่ ที่คนไทยทุกคน ทุกองค์กร ทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชนต่างร่วมมือร่วมใจกันโดยพร้อมพรัก ทำให้ผู้ที่ได้พบเห็น แม้เป็นชาวต่างชาติ ต่างภาษา ก็พากันชื่นชมยกย่อง ข้าพเจ้าเองก็มีความปีติเต็มตื้นใจ ที่ได้เห็นน้ำใจของทุกคนเช่นนี้ เพราะเป็นสิ่งบ่งชี้ให้เห็นถึงคุณธรรมข้อหนึ่งที่ยัง มีอยู่อย่าง บริบูรณ์ในจิตใจของคนไทย ก็คือ การให้ การให้นี้ ไม่ว่าจะให้สิ่งใด แก่ผู้ใด โดยสถานใดก็ตาม ล้วนเป็นสิ่งที่พึงประสงค์อย่างยิ่ง เพราะเป็นเครื่องประสานไมตรี อย่างสำคัญระหว่างบุคคลกับบุคคล และทำให้สังคมมีความมั่นคงเป็นปึกแผ่น ด้วยสามัคคีธรรม นอกจากนั้น การให้ยังเป็นบ่อเกิดแห่งความสุขอีกด้วย กล่าวคือ ผู้ให้ก็มีความสุข มีความอิ่มเอิบใจ ผู้รับก็มีความสุข มีกำลังใจ สังคมส่วนรวมตลอดถึงประเทศชาติ ก็มีความผาสุก มีความร่มเย็น

ในปีใหม่นี้ ข้าพเจ้าจึงปรารถนาอย่างยิ่งที่จะเห็นชาวไทยมีความสุ ขถ้วนหน้ากัน ด้วยการให้ คือ ให้ความรักความเมตตากัน ให้น้ำใจไมตรีกัน ให้อภัยไม่ถือโทษโกรธเคืองกัน ให้การสงเคราะห์อนุเคราะห์กัน โดยมุ่งดีมุ่งเจริญต่อกัน ด้วยความบริสุทธิ์และจริงใจ

NEW YEAR'S SPEECH
King lauds Thai generosity

His Majesty the King has praised the Thai people and all state and private agencies for their part in helping flood-stricken victims last year.

In his New Year's speech broadcast nationwide yesterday, His Majesty said the help and support in times of trouble was proof of Thais' moral responsibility and generosity.

The King said he was overwhelmed with joy when he saw people coming together and helping one another.

His Majesty said the act of giving not only brought people closer to one another, but also strengthened society as a whole.

``Giving is also a source of happiness. The givers are filled with joy and so are the recipients,'' he said.

Thanking the people for their best wishes and support throughout the year, he said he hoped the Thai people would continue to give as well as forgive at this time of the year.
