All of the following half-day and one day tours below were found in brochures that we picked up at the airport. Most hotels in Bangkok will also offer similar tours. However, it is important to note, that you don't have to be that adventurous to do most of these on your own.

FLOATING MARKET (half day) A picturesque trip to Damner Saduak canal about two hours away from Bangkok. Dozens of vendor boats crowd the canals giving a colourful picture.

ROSE GARDEN (half day) Nearly 60 acres of landscaped tropical gardens and orchards developed into a typical Thai village. The highlight is the cultural showing everything from traditional dancing to a wedding ceremony.

CROCODILE FARM (half day) The biggest crocodile farm in Thailand is located just 30 kms south of Bangkok. See over 30,000 crocodiles from tiny babies to the largest captive crocodile in the world.

BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI (full day) Come and visit the location for the real-life "Bridge on the River Kwai" and also the graves of the Allied war prisoners who died during the Japanese occupation of Thailand.

PATTAYA (full day) Now a world-renowned seaside resort on the easter shore of the Gulf of Thailand. Pattaya has a charm of its own with mile upon mile of beaches and seaside activities.

AYUTTHAYA/Bang Pa In (full day) Ayutthaya is a former capital of Thailand (1350-1767) and offers magnificient ruins showing a former splendor. Ayutthaya is situated 71 kms north of Bangkok.

SAFARI WORLD (full day) Thailand's greatest and most popular open zoo and show park. Covering over 200 acres, Safari World also includes theme

    thumbs up

I suggest Pattaya. During the day you can parasail, jetski, go snorkeling or scuba diving, visit one of the islands offshore, etc...
The restaurants there are awesome, I haven't had a bad meal yet. One of my favorites is The Brewery in Big C plaza. They open at 4pm and the steamed sea bass and fried snake fish are the best I have had in Thailand. They also brew their own beer. They have three different types, but my favorite is the dark beer or "dunkel". They also have live entertainment, with the singers getting the crowd involved. Very fun place.
On Friday and Saturday nights, don't miss the Italian singer at Hopf on Beach Road. He is absolutely incredible. He goes on around 11:30pm, but make sure you get there early to get a good seat. They also brew their own beer, as well as making excellent pizza. They also have great saurkraut, some of the best I have ever had, and I'm part German so I know my saurkraut (or as my wife calls it German kimchee, she's Korean )
I'll be returning to Pattaya in a week or so for work, and can't wait to go back to the Brewery, and visit all the friends I've made on my other business trips.

I'm very keen to know cos it's only just over 10 weeks away before we go to Thailand...

Pattaya certainly does not have beaches like in the movie The Beach. The nearest one would be Koh Samet in Rayong. However it is extremely crowded and you won't get the desert island experience. For that you should try down south.

I wouldn't go scuba diving in Pattaya. Jet ski you don't need a license. Most people go to Pattaya by bus.

The water quality is not that clear. You have to go out quite a bit. Most people scuba dive down south where it is much clearer.
