Actually I had made a lot of researches and knew that the price should be around B200-B400. I had tried my best to bargain with them, but they acted fiercely and told me that this was a reasonable price given by others renter as well. Furthermore, when we tried to looking for others boat renter, the taxi driver said "Please do not, you happy, I happy..." made me no dare to do so.:(

I had attached 3 photos which taken at floating market, you can see the code of the boat - H11. Hopefully you can find the boat renter on your next trip to floating market .

    - boat

    - sightseeing

    - taken from coconut farm

P/S : We had spent B2200 for the taxi and boat rental (means B1100 for each pax) :(

Sometimes they won't budge with the price when they know you don't have any choice. Sounds like the taxi driver was keen for you to use this boat as he would have been paid something like 250-300 baht for bringing you there. Other boat owners who charge only 400 baht per boat wouldn't have given him anything. Your situation was made worse because your taxi driver wasn't helping you.

I still think you got on the boat away from Damnoen Saduak floating market. If you had rented a boat (I know you didn't have a choice) at the market itself you would have been in one of those boats in your pictures. These boats with paddles would be 300-400 baht.

Yeah, for sure the taxi driver had been paid by the boat owner for brought us there, else the taxi driver wont charged us only B1200 for round trip (bankok - floating market - bangkok). Thats why he said "you happy, I happy....."
, definitely this was a scam of both taxi driver and boat renter.

However, assuming again the place that I caught the boat is away from Damnoen Saduak Floating market. It still a scam!

Anywhere, hope that my story can help those in need...

    Re: Floating Market in Bangkok

    Hi Richard,

I read some of your article. I am interested to bring my kids to floating markets. Still havent decided which one. Dameon Saduak, Bang Phli Old market, Don Kwai etc. I read from yr article the Bang Phli one is nearer compare to Dameon. What would you suggest and how to go about. To take a taxi there (5 incl 2 kids) or join tour. I read about some scams and worried about it. So need to be very sure before deciding to bring my kids there.

Appreciate your helpful advice and any other place of interest to go. We are not too keen in joining tour so any suggestion for us to explore on our own.

    Tks to you.
    Rosie

Although it is very touristy, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is still the best as far as the experience goes and for taking pictures. But, you must follow the tips in my blog and go early in the morning. You don't need to join a tour. You can rent a taxi for the day for about 1,500 baht.

Absolutely agree Richard. None of the others have the atmosphere of Damnoern Saduak. It has a "genuine" feel about it.

    Re: Floating Market in Bangkok

Recently I passed by Rangsit and saw they had boats similar to those "floating market" boats along the "klong". I think they're gonna have "floating market" there as well though I'm not sure if its a one time thing or permanent. But I think its probably on the weekends only. Its good to check it out if you're on your way to Dream World. Rangsit is famous for its "boat noodles" as well.

Don Wai is more of a riverside market. It is not by any means Damnoern Saduak. There is only one like that. I like Don Wai because there is good food. You can buy this and then go on a boat tour. The boats have deckchairs and low tables and you can then eat your lunch as you float down the river.

If you want to go there, I would suggest either renting a txi for the day (about 1,200 baht) or go by public transport. Take any bus heading towards Nakhon Pathom or Nakhon Chaisri. You need to get off at the turn-off for Wat Rai Khing / Don Wai. These places are well-known and the bus people should help you here. There are usually very good. Then cross the road where you will easily find local transport going down this road.

    This is my blog: http://www.thai-blogs.com/index.php/..._market?blog=5

I have also marked these locations on Google Maps.

We rely heavily on people like yourself coming back to give a trip report in order to help other people. So, please let us know how you get on. If you want help in writing these place names down in Thai then post here what you would like.

There is another good floating market down in Pattaya that just opened. If you are down that way it is worth checking out.
